Mae Nam Beach maybe Koh Samui’s last bastion for backpackers on the island

The Beach at Mae Nam over 7 km’s long, the sea is just as blue and clear and beautiful like the other beaches else on the island.

Scattered along its beaten track are many very cheap bungalows.

There are several resorts in the area catering to the high end market.

Mae Nam beach sits in between Bophut Beach to the east and with bang Po being to the west.

There is the village itself is situated on the main road through town and runs along a beautiful and impressive stretch of beach.

The beach is set back from the main road and is protected from most noises and disturbances by the coconut trees.

The sea is generally calm here with a mysterious shade of green and blue hues making it an unforgettable beach.

You won’t find much here in the way of jet skis or other annoying noisy seaside toys this place is really quite.

Sometimes in low season or when there is sufficient wind you can find the kite surfing boys and girls down here playing among the waves.

Although Mae Nam is much quieter than resorts like Chaweng and Lamai there is still action to be had.

Here you can find local Thai cuisine such as deep-fried frogs and beetles -have you ever tried deep fried silkworms?

If you fancy something a little more ‘the norm’ then fried chicken or barbeque seafood, you could try som tam, noodles soup and Thai sweet desserts.

There is also an excellent market selling everything from T-shirts to Dvd’s from souvenirs to arts and craft.

Near Maenam pier you will find a stage, here you will find many local music artists entertaining the crowd.

For some who love swimming, Mae Nam is simply Samui’s best beach.

The bay that Mae Nam sits in is curved and looks like a giant bite mark.  It is right in the mid-north of the island, directly facing Koh Phangan, some 10 kilometres to the North.

Mae Nam is Samui’s longest unbroken beach; it is a kilometre longer than Chaweng and even more beautiful.

There are many beach side bungalows on the beach all relatively inexpensive for backpackers.

The beach is surrounded by lush green tropical rain forest and coconuts trees lining the beach between the main road.

There are a couple of bigger resorts that back onto the beach and these tend to be a little bit more upmarket.

Mae Nam is an absolutely stunning beach, in fact, the whole area is perfect for those who just want to come and chill out.

The views from here are amazing with views of Koh Phan Gan with Koh Tao further out in the distance.

The pier at Mae Nam is where passenger join the ferry for the islands of Phangan and Koh Tao.
