Koh Phangan is a small island thirty minutes from Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand and not too far from Koh Tao (a scuba diving mecca).

I have read stories on Koh Phangan and the full moon party myself, describing it as one of the most notorious parties on the planet, there is no ‘Perhaps’  it is the most notorious party on the planet, full stop.

The Full Moon

Party attracts numbers in excess of 20,000 and in busy periods up to 30,000wide eyed revelers from all over the globe.

They come for the drinking, paint themselves up to show off their body piercings and wear very little.

Singing and dancing the night away there is no bigger party or more famous party in the world.

Backpackers come and they party and then they leave, to collapse in a heap somewhere in their hostel or hotel room.

Can any backpacker worth their salt truly say they have been to Thailand and not experienced the hellfire that is the full moon party on Koh Phangan.

Party Security Issues

The Full Moon Party dates are actually made to fit around any Buddhist holidays that occur and there are quite a few in Thailand.

So it is wise to make sure you have the dates correct before heading there to the full moon.

Finding accommodation while the party is difficult as you can imagine.

It is highly recommended to arrange your accommodations beforehand if you are struggling please contact us at Easy Day Samui we can help you.

Remember the party can go on for a couple of days and it cares not for those who wish to sleep a little.

Also, you will find it more expensive when the party is on to. Some folk even stay on Koh Samui and take the ferry or speedboat across.

This quite popular as there are boats running throughout the night.

Haad Rin

Haad Rin Koh Phangan is The beach where it all goes down and this little beach is in a constant state of party mode.

As always, where there is a crowded area of people, you will find undesirables and here is no different.

We must warn you to be vigilant, most people that come here want one thing. Like anywhere there are always a small number of undesirables wherever there is a large crowd, so watch yourself.

There are sting operations going down on the island particularly where drugs are concerned, sad but true. So be wary and careful please.

A little common sense and remembering that just because you are on holiday does not mean you should leave the old brain at home.

Word of Warning

A quick mention about drugs, they are not legal to buy or take anywhere in Thailand and Koh Phangan is no exception, regardless of what anyone tells you.

If you buy drugs or take them off someone, you could be being set up, you do not know what they are, and the police are all over the place and in plain clothes, I must add, so again, be careful, be very careful.

One last thing, stay out of the water if you have a little too much fun juice, it is easy to get out of your depth and there are strong currents and even rip tides on the island.

It is easy to get here from Bangkok you can take a buses there are many leaving the big city daily.

The journey down to Surat Thani can take over ten hours or more so get prepared for the trip.

Once at Surat Thani, you can then catch the ferry across which will take you onto Koh Phangan.

Or you can fly down to Koh Samui and then jump on a ferry over to the party island too.

So remember to check the dates of the actual party as it may be a day before or a day after the full moon, plan in advance and take it easy down there, it’s a beautiful island so have fun and stay safe.
