Beach at Koh Madsum

Koh Madsum is one of several smaller islands just a few minutes from Koh Samui

The little picturesque island group that this Koh Madsum belongs to is called ‘Koh Si Koh Ha’, and translates to  ‘Four Islands-Five Islands.’

The little islands are very special as they are home to a particular species of swift.

Private Longtail Boat Tours

Easy Day’s PRIVATE Tour to Koh Tan and Koh Madsum by long tail boat is a beautiful and easy day trip from Koh Samui, combining good snorkeling with relax time on a beautiful white sandy beach..

These little birds are protected -not because they are in danger- because they produce one of the most expensive delicacies in the world.

Birds Nest Soup in a Hong Kong restaurant can cost anywhere up to a hundred dollars even more. So it’s easy to see why these little birds are worth their weight in gold.

The birds are protected by a local sea gipsy tribe. Because of this the Sea gipsies are extremely protective of the little birds and make sure that there are no poachers that come to steal precious food.

Beach Paradise Koh Madsum

Koh Madsum

Madsum is a very popular island to visit and a great place to stop and have a picnic.

Koh Tean is only a stone’s throw away and can also be visited on the same day trip.

The beach here is long and the sand on it is fine and white, the kind of sand the crunches underfoot.

Madsum is a very welcoming island and only half an hour boat ride from the Samui. You will often find local students camping here.

Snorkeling at Koh Madsum

Snorkelling

If you fancy a spot of snorkeling, then you’re in the perfect spot.
Koh Madsum is home to some real genuine underwater critters. Parrot fish and colorful Wrasses cruise the small reefs here.

There are Moray Eels and if your luck is in you can even turtle or two.

If you are on the island early morning or late afternoon you might even catch a glimpse of Black Tip Reef Sharks cruising around.

Black Tip Reef Sharks are a very timid species of shark and generally keep their distance from humans. They are usually no bigger than a metre. Their food consists of small fishes and shellfish and maybe the odd octopus on a special day. As a backdrop to this little-unspoiled island is a small tropical forest.

Protected

This forest is home to even more wildlife. It’s so easy to feel part of nature on this island hopping trip and it’s ideal for the entire family.

Koh Madsum will remain unspoiled because only recently plans were drawn up that it will be protected for future generations to enjoy.

These plans ensure its development as an ECO-Tourist hotspot only, and not another spoilt built up island that has lost its charm.

Getting There

Koh Madsum is easy to find. First get down to the southern end of Koh Samui to the area known as Taling Ngam.

Here you will be able to rent a long-tail boat from one of the friendly locals.

You must negotiate a price for the time period you require the boat for, then you are all set to go.
