Diving Koh Samui & Koh Tao - Coral Trout and Coral Bommie
Coral Trout and Coral Bommie

Scuba Diving in Koh Samui – All the scuba diving activities take place around Koh Tao & Koh Nangyuan plus at the 2 scuba diving highlights Sail Rock & Chumpon Pinnacle.

The reason why diving Koh Samui is limited in terms of dive sites options is simply because the shallow water and sandy bottom combine to make the visibility quite low. The marine life is not as abundant as on dive sites around Koh Tao or Koh Nag Yuan.

Daily Diving Tours

We offer diving tours and trips around Koh Samui, showcasing the best dive sites around Koh Tao, including Chumphon Pinnacle, Sail Rock, and, upon request, the Marine Park.

The Gulf of Thailand boasts numerous excellent dive sites suitable for year-round diving. Most of these are located around Koh Tao but are easily accessible from Koh Samui via full-day trips. Sail Rock, for example, is only about an hour from Koh Samui. Divers frequently encounter large groupers, schools of barracuda and batfish, and green moray eels.

Whale sharks are also regular visitors to the region and, with a bit of luck and timing, can be spotted. These gentle giants are drawn to two large, beautifully overgrown rock formations covered in both soft and hard corals. While many divers consider the west coast to offer superior dive sites, the Gulf of Thailand provides fantastic diving experiences that are sure to leave a lasting impression.

Diving Seasons

Scuba diving is possible year-round in Koh Samui and Koh Tao, with the best conditions occurring between March and August.

From September to November, the Northeast monsoon winds bring increased wave activity, reducing visibility by approximately 30%. While diving trips are rarely cancelled due to weather, speedboat journeys can become somewhat choppy during this period.

November to February is characterized by windy and humid conditions. However, this is also a peak season for shark sightings around Koh Tao.
